Earth's Cycle Project

Final Assessment

Rock Cycle

1) How does a metamorphic rock become a sedimentary rock?
-First, metamorphic rock cools down, called crystallization, and break down by weathering. It turns into sediments. Then, erosion moves the sediments into water area. Next, compaction and cementation glue the sediments into sedimentary rock.

2) How does magma change into a metamorphic rock?
-First, crystallization happens. Magma cools down, and it becomes igneous rock. Then, heat and pressure cause igneous rock turns into metamorphic rock.

Carbon Cycle

3) How does a consumer become a fossil fuel?
-After consumers die, decomposers break down the organism, called decomposition. This process continues million of year, and turns into fossil fuel.

4) How can a fossil fuel be used in photosynthesis?
-First, fossil fuel burned by factory. It produces carbon dioxide, called CO2 emission. Consumption produces CO2 to the atmosphere. Producers use sunlight, water and CO2 to produce oxygen, called photosynthesis.

Water Cycle

5) How does lake water turn into a cloud?
-Sunlight heats the water from lake or ocean, called evaporation. It also heat the water from plants, called transpiration. They turn into water vapor. It makes clouds, and bigger, called condensation.

6) How can a cloud turn into groundwater?
-First, when clouds are big enough to rain, called precipitation. Then, water runoffs to soil. Next, water goes into ground, called infiltration, and becomes groundwater.

Essential Questions:

1) How are the rock, carbon, water cycles connected to the hydrosphere, lithosphere, atmosphere and biosphere?
-          In hydrosphere, which means water, connected to all three cycles. Weathering breaks down igneous rock into sediments, and erosion moves the sediments to ocean. Producers also talk water from groundwater, and produce oxygen (photosynthesis). Consumers take in oxygen, and produce carbon dioxide. After they die, decomposers break down the organism, and become fossil, and fossil is sedimentary rock. In addition, when precipitation happen, water runoffs to soil, and goes underground, and become groundwater. All those cycle connected to each other and hydrosphere.
In lithosphere, which means land/soil, connected to all three cycles. When precipitation happens, water runoffs and goes into soil. Plants need those cycle to grow, and produce oxygen, When rock forms from sedimentary rock to metamorphic rock, it happens underground, includes compaction and cementation.
In atmosphere, which means gas, connected to all three cycles. For example, when volcano erupts, lava comes out, and produces CO2 to atmosphere. In addition, when factory burns fossil fuel to produce CO2 into atmosphere, called CO2 emission. Sunlight also heats the water from ocean and plant. It turn into water vapor, and makes cloud, called condensation. Those cycles connected to atmosphere.
In biosphere, which means living thing. Producers and consumers are living organism. They produce oxygen and carbon dioxide. Plants also need water from precipitation and groundwater to survive. The extremely hot temperature can destroy surrounding living things. Therefore, all three cycle connected to biosphere.

2) How are the three cycles connected to each other?
-First, weathering or precipitation breaks down the rock into sediments, and erosion moves the sediment to ocean. Then, the water pressure squeezes the sediments into sedimentary rock and metamorphic rock. In addition, precipitation also give water to producers, which use to produce oxygen, and exchanges CO2 from consumers. After they die, they turn to fossil, and fossil is sedimentary rock. In conclusion, all three cycles are connected to each other.

Essay about Rock Cycle

Essay

Rock cycle is a repeatable process happens every second, but we don't notice it. Water and Carbon cycle do the similar process. Those cycle help earth's natural resources renew, and last forever. No one motivates those cycles. Those cycle happens naturally. Without those cycles, living organisms will no long survive. Let me explain briefly how rock cycle forms.
First, igneous rock broken by weathering, such as rain and ice. It turns into sediment, which means small piece of rock, and runoff by erosion. Sediments sink, and stick together, and the process called cementation and compaction. Then, it turns into sedimentary rock. Next, heat an pressure squeeze the sedimentary rocks, and become metamorphic rock. It sink deeper, and extremely hot temperature causes the it melts, and turns into magma (melted rock inside volcano). After that, magma comes out, and turns into lava (melted rock outside of volcano). As time pass, the lava cools down, the process called crystallization. Eventually, lava turns into igneous rock, just like the beginning, and this process repeats over and over again.
Rock cycle actually connected to other cycle. For instance, precipitation breaks out the igneous rock into sediment. In addition, when sediment runoffs into ocean, it is part of water cycle. When volcano explodes, the lava causes surrounding organisms die, such as consumer and producer, and it connected to Carbon cycle. In conclusion, earth is full of mystery, so we should pay attention to new scientific new information in news.

Reflection
1) What did you enjoy most about this project and why?
- I enjoy taking picture, because it is the easiest part of this project,. I don't need to rush, because we have so much time to do it.
2) What was most challenging for you during this project and why?
-  The most challenging thing is to insert the photos and create the imovie, because it takes too much time and it is complicating.
3) What new skills did you learn from doing this project?
- I learn how to collaborate with my partner. It is a group project, so we need to talk and work together. We will not finish without one of us.
4) Is there anything that you could have done to improve any of your work? Explain
- Yes, we should take each movement slowly, so people can see it clearly how the rock forms.

Current Event Reflection: Sleep and Learning

1. How does sleep effect your learning?
-When I sleep 10 hours or more, I feel energetic. Then, I don't feel tired in school,     so I have good performance in school. However, if I sleep less than 8 hours, then   I don't want to wake up, and fall asleep in school or cannot concentrate in school.

2. How much sleep do you get each night? Do you think this is enough? Do you feel tired in the morning?
-I get nine and half hours in weekdays. I think it is enough, because I don't feel         tired when I wake up. After the breakfast, I feel energetic, and go to school.

3. Will you change what you do after reading about sleep and learning? Why or why not?
-After I see the article, I will change my schedule a little bit. I will sleep at 10 p.m. and wake up at 8 a.m., so I have 10 hours to sleep. I have better concentration in school, and my brain can learn more things while I am sleeping.

Current Events: Energy Drink Reflection Homework

Final Reflection:
1. What is your opinion about energy drinks?
Ans: I think government should limits and control the ingredients inside the energy drinks, because so many people don't know about it. They think the energy drinks are healthy, and they will drink them, but nobody knows what's inside.

2. What is an opposing argument than the one that you have been presented with? What would the drink makers say about this?
Ans: The drink makers must say that energy drinks are good for everyone who finishes exercise. It recovers what you are missing after you exercise. It gives nutrition to you. Some people probably say energy makes them feel vigor.

3. Will you drink them? Why or why not?
Ans: I will not drink energy drinks after I saw the news on last Friday, because I realize there are so many negative effects to our body. Addition, they cause serious                          damages to our brain. Therefore, I will not drink them anymore even though I just                finish exercise

How does our country define who we are?   5 sentences or more total

- There are more than 7 characteristics in a specific country. There are World Location, Climate, Climate Zone, Landform, Water Resource, Natural Resource, Natural Disasters, other Festival
and other connections to the country. Different Country has different landforms, natural disasters and festivals. Those things connect to us everyday. After we adapt those things, they become our culture, and make us who we are.
Reflection:
I enjoy the different pictures in Hong Kong, including the landform and personal connections.
The most challenging is organize the pictures, because I have a lot of pictures.
I learn how to create an animation video with words and pictures.
I add the videos on my animation videos, and it makes the animation video better.
I should add more personal connections picture in my videos, because there are many, but I dont have time to add all things about H.K.
